Gotham FC sign forward Sarah Schupansky out of University of Pittsburgh
The forward is signed to a multi-year deal through 2026 with a team option for 2027.

With the many departures from Gotham FC via free agency and trades, it was only a matter of time before the team started making some signings — and the club’s first college player signing is here: Sarah Schupansky.
“I could not be more honored or excited to be joining such an amazing club,” said Schupansky. “2025 is going to be one special year and I can not wait to get started.”
The forward out of the University of Pittsburgh has signed a multi-year contract with Gotham through 2026, with a team option for 2027.
Schupansky had a highly decorated collegiate career at the University of Pittsburgh. In her senior year, the team captain led the NCAA in assists for the 2024 season, with 15. In 2023, she became the first player in program history to be named to the All-ACC First Team, notching 11 goals and 14 assists that year. In total, the Pittsburgh native finished her college career with 32 goals and 43 assists in 82 games played.
“Sarah is an extremely talented player who is ready to take the next step into the professional game,” said Gotham FC General Manager and Head of Soccer Operations Yael Averbuch West. “She is a versatile player who can play as a midfielder or as a winger. We look forward to having Sarah join the club.”
Schupansky’s profile certainly fits Gotham’s unique style of play. As a forward, she can slot into the spot vacated by Lynn Williams, but her versatility is just what Gotham is likely looking for to round out their roster for the 2025 season.
Without the draft, I was curious how Gotham would handle the recruitment of young players. In recent history, Gotham has not relied heavily on the draft to fill out roster spots. Usually drafting no more than a player or two. With the addition of Schupansky, it is clear that this is a player Gotham believes can not only help the team win, but help develop and grow.
Stay tuned for more (I don’t expect we’re done for the year). Happy holidays!
i was fine with Lynn and Delanie and could make sense out of both moves. Delanie deserves the higher cap hit she will get from Houston and Lynn ended her season as a right back for Gotham this year so i'd say the writing was on the wall there.
Yaz's choice to leave really, really burns... based on data available, anyone who thinks Gabi is an improvement upon Yaz is deluded &/or overly optimistic.
then theres the fact that Jessica Silva did *nothing* for Gotham in 2024 and has not performed in an NWSL setting - checks notes - ever. i am not counting on anything from her based on recent performances & it's pretty clear based on the contract that she's just trying to stay fit ahead of the Euros. don't know why Gotham are the team to allow her to take up a roster spot given all that??
Gabi was a nice signing. the young players are nice to see as well, but there is a lack of bite on the front line of this squad that requires *A Name* to come in and provide goals and assists in 2025. Hopefully they have that name secured and an announcement will come in January... if not, we're about to see left winger Rose Lavelle in 2025 and i personally would hate that development given the year shes just had.
