LaCroix is Gotham FC's official Sparkling Water - but is it in my personal top 5?
With a sparkling water sponsor coming to Gotham, it begs the question, what is the BEST sparking water brand? One intrepid reporter is on a mission to find out.
Sparking water gets a lot of buzz — or bubble — these days. And for good reason! It’s actually the most incredible form of hydration known to human kind. Water plus flavor plus fun little bubbles? Sign me up! You can imagine my glee when I heard that Gotham FC announced a multi-year partnership with LaCroix. The deal names LaCroix the official sparkling water of Gotham FC and the team’s training kit sponsor. What a win for us seltzerheads!
It got me thinking though, where does LaCroix fall on Jenna Tonelli’s personal list of best sparkling water brands? Well, you have to look no further than this very blog (or email) that you’re reading for the answer.
A lot of meticulous scientific effort and years of taste testing was put into compiling this list. So, without further ado, I present to you…
The Definitive* List of Sparkling Water
*A totally subjective list of my five favorite brands
AHA
I recently learned that AHA is DISCONTINUED! Guess it’s a tough market out there in the world of sparkling water. It makes sense now why I’ve had trouble finding it. This is such a mega bummer because it truly is one of the better brands I’ve tried. In particular I liked the flavor twists like lime+watermelon and blueberry+pomegranate. Crisp and refreshing! Oh well, RIP.
LaCroix
LaCroix definitely makes the top five, but misses out on a higher spot because of the cherry blossom flavor. Sadly, a bust, although I appreciate the attempt! I really enjoy the classic lemon or lime LaCroix flavors, super refreshing, and that more than makes up for it. I’ve got some fond memories of drinking them on my stoop in the summer way back when. They also have several innovative flavors that I haven’t tried yet but am itching to get my hands on. Can’t wait to have them at upcoming Gotham games!
Waterloo
Waterloo was Gotham’s sparkling water sponsor in 2023 and up until then I had not heard of it — then I was HOOKED! It all started with the ginger citrus twist someone handed me in the press box one day. Then, every chance I got I was searching around RBA for a Waterloo. I even put one in my backpack, forgot about it, and then when I was at the Gotham Championship watch party in Brooklyn, pulled it out in celebration! The blackberry lemonade flavor also gets a shoutout.
Polar
Polar is a classic when it comes to seltzer and sparkling water with a well deserved number 2 placement on my list. I prefer the raspberry lime flavor (also Adriana’s favorite), but I’m also in the hunt to try other flavors that I’ve seen online but never in stores like pink apple & lemon or ginger lime mule. Not sure what it is about Polar, but it always hits the spot and tastes amazing. It’s a staple in the Tonelli fridge.
Wegmans
I don’t know if this qualifies as a “hear me out,” but I am absolutely obsessed with Wegmans’ brand of sparkling water. The ginger flavor in particular is my favorite, followed by lemon lime. They offer a broad range of flavors and most of them get it right! My fridge will always be stocked with Wegmans sparkling water. I don’t know if this is because I spent a lot of my adolescence in upstate NY, but there you have it!
More on LaCroix
So, that’s it, my official ranking. Let me know your thoughts or if there are any brands I should be trying.
I am very excited for this partnership with LaCroix and Gotham, especially because they will offer product samples at Gotham’s pregame Fan Fest before games on March 23 and May 16 — so definitely meet me there!
It’s also always great to see such a popular brand sponsoring an NWSL team. As part of the deal, LaCroix will be Gotham’s preseason training camp partner as well as an official training kit partner, which includes the LaCroix logo on the back of the team’s training jerseys.
Only 23 days until Gotham FC kicks off for the 2025 season! Let’s raise a can of LaCroix to another fun year of footy.
When will we know who will and who will not be ready for the season that begins in less than two weeks? looks like we have rookies who were not included in the recent friendlies due to injury and still no rose on the grass 11 days out from the opener...... midfield depth is not the same this year as it was in 24'. injuries on that line are going to hurt more and the team just doesn't communicate.
